| The High Shear Twin Screw Mixer was originally
designed at DSM, The Netherlands, and later built at the TU Eindhoven in a small series. Two conical screws are driven in opposite directions in a temperature controlled stainless steel jacket. The material is filled at the top, commercially available chips and pellets with a size up to 3 mm diameter are used. The screws shear the material and press it at the bottom, where it is returned to the top via a small groove. With a lever the mixing process is interrupted and the material is extruded out of the machine.
